The new year 2023 ushered in the formal commencement of the B20 India official activities with the B20 India Inception Meeting, which was held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India on 22b24 January 2023. The B20 India Inception Meeting paved the way for the development of policy recommendations on industry priorities in the year ahead. A three-day event, the inception meeting featured eminent speakers sharing their perspective on the role and importance of B20, and how these are aligned with the broader G20 agenda and the themes that will be taken for strategic visioning and translating  into policy deliverables key for overall global economic development and growth. The sessions at the Conference covered global issues including climate action, unlocking economic recovery, redefining digital global cooperation, building resilient global value chains (GVCs) and rethinking and revitalizing innovation to drive inclusive impact.

bIndia is working on a roadmap of 25 years to make India a developed nation by 2047 when we celebrate 100 years of Independence. The Four Ibs that are driving Indiabs growth are massive investments in infrastructure, focus on integrity, inclusive development and international outlook.b

bFour approaches that India has taken in the recent past to maintain its relatively high growth rate in difficult times include economic management, digital economy and regulation in new technologies. India Stack, a set of open APIs and digital public goods that are a vehicle for social and financial inclusion, is now being offered to the world in the spirit of social service.b

JANUARY 22-24, 2023

The Inception Meeting of the Business 20 (B20) Engagement Group under Indiabs Presidency of the G20 took place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 22-24 January 2023. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as the B20 India Secretariat was the organiser of the B20 India Inception Meeting. The three-day program also showcased a unique Indian cultural experience in the form of art exhibitions, cultural performances, a yoga session, and excursions.

bG20 and all its engagement groups must be inclusive, ambitious, decisive, and action-oriented. Some of the biggest challenges to face in the near future will be digital transformation, climate financing, and decoupling and demonopolizing global value chains to make them more resilient.b

The 52nd World Economic Forum Annual Meeting was held in Davos, Switzerland, from 16b20 January 2023 and was the first full meeting of the level of the pre-pandemic meetings (winter Davos), under the theme bCooperation in a Fragmented Worldb.

In this milestone year for India's G20 Presidency, India had a strong representation which was one of the largest contingents at the Forum. The Ministerial delegation included four cabinet ministers b Ms Smriti Irani, Minister for Women, Child Development and Minority Affairs, Mr R.K. Singh, Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy, Mr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers and Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology.

bIndia went from importing PPE kits at the start of the pandemic to producing 500,000 kits daily by July 2020. Supply chains were repurposed, and workforce reskilled to achieve this milestone, 70% of them women. This was an example of government and industry partnership to build not just a new nation but a new world.b
